Greek Orthodox Easter is the most important celebration of the Greek year, and the islands are one of the most moving places to experience it. This cruise sails from Athens on Good Friday and returns a week later, weaving Easter traditions through every day.
Easter, day by day
You board M/S Galileo at Marina Zea and join the Good Friday Epitaphios ceremony before sailing via Poros. Holy Saturday starts with a swim and a barbecue on deck at uninhabited Poliegos, then Folegandros. At midnight the priest proclaims Christos Anesti, the Resurrection flame passes from candle to candle and church bells ring across the harbour.
Easter Sunday is spent on Santorini, with a festive meal of lamb and the red-egg cracking game, and an optional visit to Akrotiri and Oia. Easter Monday brings Antiparos and Paros, with Greek Night on board.
The rest of the week
An optional tour of Delos leads into an evening in Mykonos. Syros offers a taste of Cycladic cooking at a family taverna, and the final day brings a swim in Kolones Bay on Kythnos and a sail past the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, before the Captain's Farewell Dinner.
