Every year brings a wave of trend forecasts. We prefer the ones backed by booking data. Here are five shifts we expect to shape 2027, and what they mean when you plan.

1. Autumn is the new summer

Virtuoso, the luxury travel network, reported in August 2026 that its autumn 2026 bookings were up 59% year on year, with sales up 69%. Travellers are moving trips away from the peak summer weeks, towards quieter months with better availability and gentler weather. For 2027, we suggest looking hard at September, October and early November for the Mediterranean.

2. Spending per night keeps rising

According to the same Virtuoso data, the average luxury international hotel rate reached $1,653 a night, against $985 in 2019. Bookings above $1,500 a night grew 37% in the first half of 2026. The practical point: the best rooms in the best hotels sell first, so the earlier you commit, the more choice you have.

3. Families travel together

Virtuoso found that 69% of its advisers are seeing more demand for multigenerational travel. That favours private villas, chalets and yachts over hotel rooms, and it makes logistics such as connecting flights, transfers and dietary needs more important.

4. More wealth, and more of it in the Middle East

Knight Frank's 2026 Wealth Report counts 713,626 ultra-high-net-worth individuals worldwide, up from 551,435 in 2021. The Middle East's share rose from 2.4% to 3.1%. We see this every day in requests from the Gulf, for European summers, Alpine winters and major sporting events.

5. Coolcations, sleep and private clubs

Galerie magazine's look ahead to 2027 picks out coolcations in cooler climates, private villas and members' clubs, sleep retreats and private jet journeys. Our own requests point the same way: Lapland and Iceland are growing fast, and wellness now shapes how many clients choose a hotel.

What this means for your 2027 plans

  • Book peak dates and the best suites early, as prices and demand are both up
  • Consider shoulder months for the Mediterranean
  • For family trips, start with a villa or yacht and build around it
  • Ask about wellness and sleep facilities, not just the spa menu
