One of the most famous train journeys in the world is adding one of its most glamorous stops. As reported by Euronews on 8 October, Belmond's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will call at Monte Carlo from May 2027, and the stop will return every year.
The route
The train leaves Paris in the afternoon and runs overnight to the Riviera, passing the red rocks of the Estérel, Saint-Raphaël, Cannes and Nice before pulling into Monte Carlo's station, cut into the rock above the principality. From there it continues to Venice.
Guests dine on board on the first evening and wake up to breakfast and the Mediterranean, which makes Paris to Monaco a single, memorable night.
Cabins and prices
- Fares start at €4,870 per person, based on two sharing a historic cabin
- Grand Suites are available, including L'Observatoire, designed by the artist JR, with a bedroom, bathroom with a freestanding bath, a living area and a hidden tearoom
- All meals with sommelier-selected wines, 24-hour steward service and transfers are included
- Dinner is served in the Étoile du Nord and L'Oriental restaurant cars, followed by Bar Car 3674 with live piano
Why it matters
The Riviera in May is already one of the busiest calendars in luxury travel, with the Grand Prix, Cannes and the start of the yacht season all within a few weeks. Arriving by train turns the journey into part of the trip, and Grand Suites on the first departures are likely to be limited.
We can secure cabins, arrange a yacht or a suite in Monaco on arrival, and connect the train to a private jet home from Nice.
