Tangier is about to join Morocco's luxury map properly. On 8 October, Four Seasons announced a new resort in Cap Malabata, the headland east of the city that looks straight across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain.
It will be the brand's fourth property in the country, after Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr.
What has been announced
- 99 rooms and suites, including 27 standalone villas
- More than 260 metres of private waterfront
- Four restaurants and bars, a full-service spa and a large pool
- Kids For All Seasons, plus indoor and outdoor event spaces
- Around 15 minutes from Tangier's high-speed train station and 45 minutes from Ibn Battouta Airport
The resort is being developed with Royal Resort Cap Malabata, with architecture by Arjitec and interiors by Goddard Littlefair. No opening date has been given yet.
Why Tangier, and why now
Tangier has always been a city of crossings: a short hop from southern Spain, a high-speed train ride from Rabat and Casablanca, and a long-standing favourite of writers and artists. What it has lacked is the kind of resort that turns a stopover into a stay. A villa resort on the water, within an hour of an international airport and a ferry ride from Tarifa, changes that.
For clients who already know Marrakech, it also opens a different Morocco: Atlantic and Mediterranean light, seafood rather than tagines, and an easy pairing with Andalucía on the same trip.
Planning ahead
Brand-new villa resorts tend to fill their best villas first, often with repeat guests of the brand. If northern Morocco is on your list, tell us now and we will register your interest, track the opening date and plan the journey around it, from a private jet into Tangier to a Gibraltar crossing by private boat.
